Moving to Switzerland with a dog or cat: checks before crossing the border
Prepare for moving from Milan to Switzerland with a pet, separating health documents, customs procedures and arrival arrangements.

Switzerland requires dedicated verification
For the EU’s entry of dogs, cats and ferrets, the Swiss veterinary authority generally indicates microchips, valid anti-racing and a recognised passport. Do not treat the transfer as a simple journey between Italian cities: consult the Swiss official tool with country of origin, age and characteristics of the animal. For special cases, such as young animals or dogs with ears or amputated tail, ask for confirmation before departure.
Sanitary documents and customs practice
An inventory of furniture is not the animal’s health document. Prepare two separate folders and check with Swiss authorities how to declare the animal in the context of home transfer. Avoid supposing that the practice presented for the truck automatically covers each person and animal coming with another medium. Write in the plan who passes the frontier, when and with which originals.
Delivery can have different times
Before leaving, confirm access to the new house. If the animal arrives with you before the furnishings, prepare a kit with bowls, usual food, blanket, transport and documentation. If you expect an intermediate night, check that you accept the species and the number of animals. These organizational details can avoid being delivered without usable accommodation.
After transfer
Contact a local veterinarian and check the registration requirements in the place of residence. The official page below allows you to deepen the entrance; for cantonal and communal obligations ask the offices of the destination. Do not rely on experiences of friends related to different routes. Keep the responses received along with the travel plan and recheck the requirements if the date or origin changes.
