Moving within the EU with a dog or cat: passports and vaccinations
Documents and timings to check before moving from Milan to an EU country with a dog, cat or ferret.

Before fixing the departure
This guide covers private travel with dog, cat or ferret, without sale or change of owner. For travel between EU countries, microchips, valid anti-ractical vaccination and European passport are normally used. The microchip must precede the vaccination valid for the trip. After the first vaccination it is necessary to wait at least 21 days; even a recall made after the expiry can request a new wait.
Exceptions should be checked on the route
For dogs heading to Finland, Ireland, Malta, Norway or Northern Ireland a treatment against echinococcus is normally required in the 24–120 hours prior to entry, registered by the veterinarian. For puppies, more than five animals or separate travel from the owner checks the specific conditions before booking. Birds, rabbits and reptiles do not automatically follow passport rules for dogs and cats.
Preparing a really usable folder
Rated destination, countries crossed, date and a half travel. Bring this data to your veterinarian and to the competent veterinary service: so the verification is about your concrete itinerary. Keep the originals with those who accompany the animal, not in a box. Keep digital copies and a list of deadlines; check that the identification code corresponds to documents. A reservation accepted by the company does not replace health control.
Coordinate move from Milan
Program the arrival of the family also considering the availability of the new home. If the furniture arrives the next day, it still serves a suitable place for the animal. Germany, France and Spain are frequent destinations, but it is not enough to change the country's name on a list: it also checks carriers, accommodation and local rules after transfer. In case of change of the date, check the deadlines. The official sources listed below must be consulted again before departure.
