Hanging clothes and wardrobe boxes: preparing clothes for moving
Moving the wardrobe means managing very different garments: long dresses, jackets, knitwear, shoes and small accessories. Preparing them all in the same way can occupy space unnecessarily and make the reorganization slower in the new room.
Divide what remains hanged by what bends
Start with the leaders you use in the weeks of the transfer: a small selection should remain in a suitcase easily accessible. Then separate the garments that can be folded by those you prefer to keep on the hangers. The criterion is not only the occupied space, but also the delicacy and structure of the head.
Before packing check pockets, belts and removable accessories. Coins, keys or forgotten documents can end at the bottom of a container. Keep the elements coordinated with a clear description, avoiding to disperse the belt of a coat or accessories of a dress between boxes without relationship.
Use a wardrobe box correctly
The wardrobe boxes provide a system to hang the hangers; model, capacity and installation must be verified according to the manufacturer's instructions. Do not consider them cabinets to be filled without limit. The rod, the cardboard and the closure must work under the conditions provided, without being deformed by excessive load.
Leave the garments the necessary space and check the length of the clothes before choosing the format. Avoid filling the bottom with heavy items that can shock clothing or make handling difficult. If the container is supplied by the company, it agrees in advance quantity, availability and method of use.
Organize shoes, bags and textiles separately
The shoes must be clean and dry, with protections compatible with the materials. Keep them separated from the clear garments and linens. The bags can have delicate shapes and accessories: it preserves detachable straps and parts, without bending them or compressing them only to close a box.
For knitwear and textiles choose containers that allow an orderly closure. Avoid sealing still wet garments. Vacuum is not a universal solution: some garments do not tolerate prolonged compressions. Evaluate the care indications and use this option only when it is compatible with the fabric and with the expected time before reordering.
Put everything back in place without looking for long
Label per person and destination, not only with the word clothes. In the new house the spaces could change: specify main room, entrance wardrobe or change season allows to immediately place the neck at the right point. Avoid unnecessary personal information on external labels.
Before emptying the containers check that cabinets and drawers are ready, clean and fully fitted. Open the daily garments first and postpone the change of season. Store reusable boxes according to agreements with the supplier and check that there are no small accessories left on the bottom before bending or returning them.
