Mirrors and framed pictures: preparing wall-mounted items for moving
Two frames of the same size may require different protections. Glass, reliefs, gilt edges, back supports and overall weight change the way an object is prepared: for this it is useful to describe it before starting packing.
Make a list with measures and peculiarities
Photograph each object in front and back, including details of the angles and any fixing systems. Note the external dimensions of the frame, which can be greater than the image or the mirror. Report loose components or damage already present, so the preparation starts from a documented situation.
For valuable works, special materials or very heavy objects, a dedicated evaluation is required. Do not confuse a useful photograph to the quote with an estimate of value. Describe your business needs and check whether specific packing materials or operators with special skills are required.
Protect surfaces and corners without gluing
The protection must avoid harmful contacts and movements, without improper adherence to the surfaces. Do not apply ribbons on paints, finishes, delicate frames or parts that may be marked. Even a soft material can be unsuitable if dirty, abrasive or not compatible with the contact surface.
The angles and reliefs are points to be observed separately. A frame with protruding decorations should not be compressed to adapt it to a container too small. It agrees with the type of packing and leaves operators with the assessment of the points of support and the provision during transport.
Do not forget the back and accessories
Hooks, cables and rear supports can protrude or move. If removable elements are separated, place them in an identified envelope that cannot impact the glass. Keep together information about the original suspension system, knowing that a different solution could be needed in the new wall.
Avoid temporarily stacking unprotected objects in a hallway. Before retiring, it detects a dry and free space from passages, without creating unstable supports. Fragile indications are useful to recognize the content, but do not replace an appropriate packing or a clear communication of the features of the object.
Check before hanging in the new house
At delivery prepares an area to open the packing materials one at a time. Compare objects with the list and keep the protections until the control is finished. Photographing the desired position on the wall can help the organization, but it does not show that that point is technically suitable for fixing.
The weight, the type of wall and the anchoring elements must be evaluated by those who will perform the work. Please clarify in advance if the attachment returns to the requested service. Avoid leaving mirrors and open paintings in the midst of mounting operations: wait for the room to be ready to reduce shock occasions and make the last phase of the move more tidy.
