Photographing furniture before storage: keeping a clear record

A useful photograph is not necessarily a beautiful photograph. Prior to the deposit, it is mainly used to recognize the object and to preserve an understandable reference on its visible state. An orderly sequence helps to remember finishes, components and details already present before the withdrawal. Personal images complement the inventory and documentation agreed with the supplier; they do not automatically replace content or function.

Start from a full view

Photograph every piece of furniture, possibly with uniform light and without objects placed in front. For a modular library, you can see the general layout; for a table you can also see the relationship between the plan and the structure. Enter the file name the code used in the inventory. If the furniture is still loaded, avoid exposing documents or personal photographs that are not necessary for its identification. A general view allows you to understand which furniture contains the following details.

Approach to particular surfaces and points

Add images of edges, handles, edges and delicate surfaces. If there are visible signs, take them both closely and with a wider frame that makes the position recognizable. A very close photograph, without context, can be difficult to interpret later. Do not alter the colors with filters and keep the original files. For glass and reflective surfaces change angle to reduce reflections, without presenting images as a technical verification of materials.

Document configuration and components

Before the dismantling it can be useful to record the layout of the shelves and the combination of modules. However, it leaves the operators the definition of the technical references necessary to the reassembly. Photos separately the accessories collected, connecting them to the same code of the furniture. If separate packages are prepared, note which components contain. For equipment with complex connections, it agrees what information the competent professional needs: a photograph does not authorize to carry out interventions for which specific skills are required.

Keep and compare without losing your history

Gather images into dated folders and keep an accessible copy even if the main computer starts with the move. Use simple names, for example M03-general and M03-bordo-sinistro. You can consult the same archive when checking the inventory. If you notice a difference, document it accurately and report it in accordance with the methods agreed for the service, without waiting for the references to be confused. The goal is to encourage a clear comparison of observable facts, not attribute responsibility through incomplete images.

Separate complete archive and images to share

You can store a full collection for personal use and send only the images relevant to your request to the supplier. Before sharing, it checks that no confidential data, people or foreign documents appear. But keep intact the originals in your archive, without overwriting them with cut-out versions. An index of files connected to the furniture codes makes it quicker to find the right photo when it is necessary to clarify a precise detail.
