If you must leave your home in Milan before the next is available, furniture storage can form part of your move. DUDA Traslochi assesses collection, transport to our Mariano Comense facility and later redelivery, agreeing the quantity, expected duration and tasks. Plan what will remain in storage and what you will need in the meantime. Clear preparation helps keep track of your furniture and boxes between homes.
When temporary storage may help
Storage can help if key handover is delayed, during renovation or when rooms must be cleared before furniture can be placed elsewhere. A fixed interval needs different planning from an uncertain period. During the initial discussion, tell us when the property must be vacated and when you expect to be able to receive your belongings again.
Distinguish storage from transport arrangements. Collection, handling, storage and redelivery are connected but must be described in the proposal. Tell us before confirmation if circumstances may change, so we can discuss updates and the information needed for final delivery. Planning should cover the whole process, not just leaving the first property.
Which furniture and boxes need storing
List the furniture and boxes for storage, including belongings in ancillary rooms. Identify intact furniture, items requiring dismantling and delicate components. Volume depends on the belongings and preparation, not simply the number of rooms. Photographs and measurements of the main items help begin the assessment, with further checks where needed.
The service covers the agreed belongings. Ask about unusual items or anything you are unsure can be accepted before packing it. Do not include undeclared contents needing different conditions. An accurate description lets us assess suitability and handling: not every household object can be stored in the same way or for any length of time.
Keep essentials for the waiting period separate
Before packing for storage, set aside clothing, documents, work items, keys and personal essentials for the interval. Keep these with you rather than mixing them into the stored boxes. For a long or uncertain stay, also consider what you may need later. Make these decisions while your belongings are still easy to access.
Retrieving an item during storage must be checked and arranged under the service conditions. This is not the same as unrestricted access to a self-storage unit. Tell us at the outset if some boxes may be needed before others, as this can affect planning. Clear access arrangements help you decide what to keep available and what to store until scheduled redelivery.
Preparing and packing for storage
Prepare belongings for both transport and the storage period. Surfaces, dismantled parts and boxes need appropriate protection. If DUDA is packing, agree which items are included. If you pack yourself, use suitable containers and mark the essential contents and final destination. Clear identification also helps when boxes are reopened weeks or months later.
Keep dismantled furniture clearly associated with its fittings and accessories. Component descriptions and readable labels help later reassembly. Tell us about pre-existing damage, loose parts and special requirements during the assessment. Specify the expected duration too: short-term and longer storage require discussion of suitable conditions rather than an assumption that every arrangement is equivalent.
Inventory and identification
An inventory describes what is entrusted to us and helps prepare redelivery. It may include identifying numbers, short descriptions and notes on visible condition. Descriptions of sealed boxes depend on the available information and who packed them. Agree the level of detail: an external inventory does not automatically establish every item inside a closed box.
Photographs can supplement notes, especially for distinctive furniture. Keep a copy of the shared information and update the inventory if the belongings change. It does not replace the service agreement, but provides a common reference. For a move with several destinations, it also distinguishes stored belongings from items going directly to another home.
Storage conditions, duration and cost
The price depends on quantity, duration and included tasks. Assess transport, packing, dismantling and redelivery alongside storage conditions. Before accepting, ask how the storage period is defined and how to notify changes. If the end date is uncertain, clarify extensions at the outset rather than relying on an estimated duration.
Ask for the contractual conditions and insurance cover applicable to your belongings, including any limits or exclusions. Check the service documents rather than relying on general wording. An item’s value or characteristics may require specific clarification before confirmation. A clear proposal distinguishes the activities and identifies information still needed to finish planning.
Planning redelivery to your new home
Once the destination is ready, redelivery needs operational confirmation. Provide the final address, floor, access and key availability. Tell us about any change of property before scheduling the work. Furniture must fit the destination rooms, with space available for reassembly. Any equipment must also be assessed against the actual delivery conditions.
If you want only part of the stored belongings delivered, feasibility and arrangements must be agreed. A partial delivery may need a different assessment from a complete return. Agree the work required at your new home and who will handle used packing materials. Planning this stage in advance keeps storage connected with the rest of your move.
Keep your contact details current and tell us about changes to anyone authorised to coordinate redelivery. During a longer storage period, having the agreement and service references readily available makes it easier to resume planning.
Requesting a service assessment
For storage linked to a move from Milan, send an approximate inventory, photographs of the main furniture and the expected period. Describe access at the property being vacated and, if known, the final destination. Say whether you need packing, dismantling or reassembly and whether you expect to retrieve items during storage. We can then assess the stages together and identify further checks.
