Paper, bubble wrap and blankets: different materials for different needs
The choice of protections starts from the object, not from the material that is already available. Paper, bubble wrap, blankets and cartons can perform different functions; correctly combining them requires attention to the surfaces, shapes and path provided.
Distinguish contact, separation and support
Before packing, ask yourself what problem you need to solve. Shouldn't two surfaces rub? Is a protrusion likely to be bumped? Does an object move in the box? They are different needs and effective protection must consider them separately, without adding layers only to obtain a more voluminous enclosure.
The material in contact with a finish must be compatible and clean. The external elements can instead serve to contain or protect the whole. If the object is particular, describe it to the enterprise before the preparation: a close photo of angles and surfaces can be more useful than a general picture of the room.
Use the card with a precise goal
The paper suitable for the packing can help to separate content and occupy some spaces, but does not replace a structurally adequate container. Avoid compressing large amounts of paper against fragile parts. The arrangement of the object continues to count even when it seems completely wrapped.
For sensitive surfaces, check the type of paper used. Do not automatically use printed cutouts, dirty sheets or wet materials. During the opening, collect the sheets one at a time and check that they do not hide small accessories: the risk of losing a component depends not only on transport.
Evaluate bubble wrap and blankets without universal rules
The bubble wrap is available in different characteristics and should not be considered suitable for any direct contact. Delicate surfaces, paints and special materials may require a compatible layer or a different solution. Avoid adhesive tapes directly on the object and agree to the preparation when you do not know the finish.
Covers can protect surfaces during certain phases, but must be cleaned and used so as not to hinder the grip of the operators. They do not constitute a universal solution for screens, glasses or objects with protrusions. The choice of the system must be connected to the handling and the disposition of the load.
Buy reasoned quantities and manage reuse
Make a list of groups to prepare before buying material. A house with many books has different needs from a house with paintings, glasses and furnishings with irregular shapes. Ask what protections will be provided by the company and what preparations you will need to complete, so as to avoid duplication and shortcomings.
After the move separates the materials still clean and intact from the damaged ones. Do not store them indiscriminately in wet or bulky places. Follow the local indications for the bestowal of the different waste and check any return agreements. Reuse is useful when the material maintains the necessary characteristics, not when it only serves to postpone a choice on its state.
