Furniture fittings: avoiding lost parts

During a move a small missing bracket can slow down mounting more than a large panel. Organizing the hardware does not mean mixing everything in a box: it is necessary to maintain the relationship between each piece and the furniture to which it belongs.

DUDA Traslochi — Furniture hardware: how to avoid lost pieces

An acronym for each furniture, before the dismantling

Assign a short acronym for each piece of furniture: for example CAM1-ARM for the wardrobe of the first room and STU-SCR for the study desk. Use the same theme on the photos and list of the move. When two furniture is identical, however, it can be distinguished by environment or number.

Identification should not damage the finishes. Agree with operators where to apply any removable labels and which elements should not receive adhesives. A readable and shared system is preferable to dozens of different annotations, understandable only to those who wrote them.

Divide by function when needed

The hardware of a simple furniture can be collected in a single identified container. For a complex composition it can be useful to separate modules links, interior accessories and specific fixings. This subdivision must follow the work of dismantling, without subtracting components to the operators while they are working.

Do not add in the same bag screws found in the house or old parts of uncertain origin. An almost equal screw is not automatically compatible. Leave the unknown pieces in a separate envelope with a note: it will be the one who mounts the furniture to evaluate its possible use.

Keep photographs and instructions together with the reference

Photograph the label of the container and the corresponding furniture. If you own the manual, note the brand and model in the same list. There is no need to produce a complicated archive: a folder on the phone with ordered images and a copy of the inventory can already avoid many confusions.

For particular parts, such as joints or shaped supports, ask that they remain recognizable during handling. Do not attempt to replicate a technical sequence observed in photography alone. Images are a useful reference, but do not replace instructions and assembly expertise.

Establish those who keep and who deliver

Before leaving, please clarify whether the hardware will travel with the components or in a centralized container managed by the team. Avoid a part ending in the customer’s car and another on the vehicle without anyone knowing it. If deposit stops are provided, it also indicates when it will be necessary to recover it.

Upon arrival, check that each container has a destination and is not discarded with the packing materials. Any pieces left after assembly should be identified, not automatically thrown. This method is particularly useful in the removals with multiple rooms or furniture directed at different addresses, where recognizing small components counts how much to distinguish large packages.

When different teams intervene between withdrawal and delivery, you will see a passage of explicit information. The person who receives the pieces must be able to read the references without seeing the dismantling.
