Moving boxes: choosing the right size for the contents
A large box is not always the most comfortable solution. In preparing a move in Milan it is best to think first about the content, then on the volume of the cardboard: the weight and stability affect the way the neck can be handled and placed on the medium.
Separating heavy objects and voluminous content
Books, documents and small tools focus a lot of weight in little space. For these objects it is generally more practical to use content packages, avoiding filling a large box only because it remains placed. Bearings, duvets and light textiles require volume: they can occupy larger boxes without creating the same problem of handling.
Before buying all the material, prepare three small sample groups: heavy, light and fragile. They'll help you figure out what formats they really need. A reasoned assortment avoids both huge boxes difficult to move and many tiny containers that disperse accessories.
Check cardboard, bottom and closure
A cardboard already used can still be useful, but it should be carefully observed. Angles crushed, deformed background, humidity or tears near the folds make the structure less reliable. It is not enough to wrap a weak container with a lot of ribbon to turn it into a box suitable for any load.
Check the manufacturer's directions and agree with those who carry out transportation such as containers to use for the most demanding items. Close the bottom before filling and verifying that the upper fins can meet without force. A box that remains bombed makes it more difficult to arrange the load.
Fill without creating pressure
The internal space must be organized, not simply occupied. Objects should not move freely, but should not be framed at pressure against the walls. Use appropriate material to separate and stabilize the content, paying particular attention to delicate surfaces and protruding parts.
If a box contains objects of a different nature, ask yourself how it will be opened. Putting a heavy tool over a light accessory can damage it even during the unpacking. When possible, group homogeneous content and keep together what belongs to the same activity or room.
Prepare recognizable packages for delivery
Write the destination on at least two accessible sides and assign a progressive number. Generic words like various or home become unnecessarily useful when the boxes all come together. Better a short description, for example room, bed linen, neck 12, without exposing unnecessary personal information.
Before the move you do one last check: closed boxes, legible labels and no content that is dirty. Mark the necks that require special treatment and let the team assess the handling. Preparing consistent containers makes it easier also to understand how many boxes were delivered and where to start fixing them.
